Sometime during the past year, banks reduced the spending limits on naira debit cards to as low as $100 per month.

Some banks reviewed their international spending limit and increased the spending limit, whereas some didn’t. As of the moment of this post, Standard Chartered Bank has the highest spend limit of $500 per month.

Quite a number of Nigerians rely on their naira debit cards to pay for online transactions that are billed in US dollars. They are then charged with the prevailing exchange rate.

Monthly subscriptions make up for a percent of our online transactions and as they are recurrent dollar expenses, you are unable to get those shoes you’ve added to your Nike cart for over three months because you always exhaust your dollar limit.

7 Tips On Handling Disappointments And Refocusing on Your Goals

Disappointments come in a number of forms.

It could be of a loved one/spouse, a breakup from a relationship, work-related, feeling disappointed with life, or the emotion that comes with letting things go.

Handling disappoitments can be quite tricky. Sometimes, you get used to the seemingly little ones, and then you have a major setback that makes it seem as though they all piled up somewhere and at that moment, it feels like nothing ever worked.

Sometimes, it doesn’t hurt so much because you’re like “It’s part of life’

And other times, it really hurts. It hurts a lot.

Learning how to deal with it helps you handle the pain and hurt a lot better, it can also spur you towards your desire depending on much you learn from the experience. We’ll discuss more on this in a while.

You’re probably asking “So, what do I do to make this all go away?”

  1. Identify the source.

Why do I feel this way? Allow the news sink in. Now’s not the time to live in denial.

Deal with the feeling. Find a word(s) that defines how you feel. Are you terrified, cynical, disgruntled, do you feel short-changed? Acknowledge that you feel this way. It’s important that you honor your emotions.

  1. Identify how you deal with anxiety and stress.

Ask yourself how you deal with anxiety? Is it a time for you to take a vacation, go see a movie or would you rather have people over? If you haven’t figured it out prior to now, that’s also fine. Try a number of activities and take note of those you really enjoy. It could be biking, swimming, taking a long walk, binge-watching a series on Netflix, etc

The implication of this is that, when you figure out what helps to keep you calm during a stressful period, you’ll be able to control your emotions and redirect it to something you enjoy doing.

  1. Focus on the positives.

Take a look around you and take stock of all that you have. Refuse to entertain negative thoughts or ideas. Look out for ways to grow despite the disappointment. Turn that bitterness into determination. Use it to fuel your desired outcome.

  1. Protect your mental health.

Deliberately avoid people that always have something negative to say. Limit the people you share your hurt with. You don’t want someone reminding you about all the other opportunities that didn’t work out in a moment like this. Be conscious of the things you allow to get into your head and mind.

  1. Keep a journal.

You’re probably like Why? The mind works on auto-pilot sometimes, you have just one negative thought and you spiral all the way down. You can avoid a situation like this by keeping a journal. Start by writing how you feel, empty everything you have inside into your journal.

Then, write out all the positive things you know about yourself. When you have a negative thought or you get exposed to a negative opinion, you’ll be able to reference the journal to say – This is who I am.

  1. Go back to the master plan.

Learn from it and make decisions that move you forward to your desire. If the desire is point C and the goal/opportunity you missed out on was point B, Is there a point D that takes you to point C from where you are?

What you missed out on might feel like the end, but it’s not, you just expected a certain outcome. Figure out another route that takes you to your desire.

  1. It is not a setback.

In the real sense, you’re not moving away from your goals. Everything you’ve done up until now has been to move closer and closer to the goal. You’ve grown, you learned something that nobody else is aware of.

Identify what you could have done better. Were your expectations overboard?

You’re walking out of this a better person. You’re much more stronger and knowledgeable.

Keep your focus on your desire. Allow your goals to continue driving you forward.

Relationship Conversations : Clear-Cut Questions You Need To Be Honest About

It can be really tempting to dive into that relationship and just go with the flow… Because why exactly do I have to wait?

We like each other. We’ve gone on a couple of dates. We create time to catch up on how our day went. There’s this show of genuine care and concern when we’re talking.

So why not?

There are a lot of important things you need to talk about before you make up your mind to go into that ship.

Is this relationship just because you need someone to attend that family function with or “I feel lonely” or Do you see a future with this person?

I think that relationships like this should be intentional. Do we want the same results with our previous relationships or something much better and…

Even though it doesn’t work out, you know you gave it your best.

We’ll look through questions you need to be honest with yourself about.

These questions help you figure out who you are and also influence your relationship with people.

Although there’ll be some things you can compromise on, you’ll be clear on the things that aren’t negotiable.

  1. What brings you the most happiness?

You need to identify what exactly does. What makes you truly happy? Is it spending time with loved ones? Spending time alone? Going on trips? Does the happiness of close friends and family translate to your happiness?

  1. What is your love language?

Knowing this can be the most important thing in your relationship. There are 5 love languages –

Words of affirmation, Gifts, Act of Service, Quality Time, and Physical Touch.

Everyone has at least one love language they prefer to the other. Identifying this helps you discover how you prefer to receive love and also helps you recognize your partner’s.

You can take this love language quiz.

  1. What is your typical demeanor?

Are you High key or Low key? Do you communicate more with body language and facial expressions or are you always talking? Can you stand a chatty partner if you like to live a quiet life? Will you be able to live with someone that barely talks if verbal communication is a big deal for you?

  1. What is your greatest motivation/influence in life?

What or Who drives you? What is that big thing that fuels your drive? Do you seek validation from friends? How big is that vision? Is it the first thing on your mind and the last thing when you go to bed? Does financial freedom sound like something that interests you?

  1. What do you want from this relationship?

Is it just vibes? Or Love, Companionship, Marriage?

You have to really think about what your expectations are.

  1. What do you do when you get angry/feel jealous?

Do you throw things away? What calms you down? Or do you just act rashly and as a result caused more harm? How do you communicate your displeasure? Are you always shouting at the top of your voice? Can you tell your partner you feel jealous about someone they’re hanging out with?

  1. What is too serious to play with/joke about?

For some people, you can’t joke about their gait. It’s a big deal. For others, jokes about death or any form of abuse is a turn-off. Highlight the deal breaker for you and make sure to communicate it so you don’t come off as “always angry”.

  1. How open are you with your feelings?

Do you have to be asked “How are you?” 1 million billion times before you say how you feel? Do you have peak times when you’re more expressive? Are there activities that allow you to let your guard down? Understanding this helps you articulate better with your partner.

  1. How do you prefer to communicate ?

Are you a text person? Do you prefer calls? Can you communicate properly if it’s not an in-person discussion? Do you make eye contact while talking to people and expect the same?

  1. How do you feel most loved?

This also has a thing to do with love languages. Knowing your love language helps you to pinpoint what exactly makes you feel that rush of affection.

  1. Are there things you can’t compromise on?

How important is your job? Can you give it all up if it comes to that? Can you work remotely if your family requires that you do? How religious are you? Must your partner have the same religious beliefs as you?

  1. Do you want to get married?

Do YOU? Not everyone plans to. Some people just want company and not commitment.

Is that you? Are you open to changing the decision when you find someone that checks all the boxes?

  1. Do you want kids?

A couple of people don’t want to bring kids into a world like this. They can’t bear the thought of their child falling sick and dying or the childhood sexual trauma that people don’t talk about till they’re adults. Other people think it’s a responsibility they don’t want to bear.

You need to be clear about this. If you want children, how many do you want?

Is that open to change given your partner’s preferences or financial realities?

  1. Are you more analytical than creative?

Do you analyze the cause and effect of every decision or do you go with the flow and enjoy the spontaneity?

The thought process for each personality types work differently, understanding this helps to align your decisions to “the same page”.

  1. Overprotective or ??

Are you the possessive partner? Do you get jealous when your partner hangs out with their clique?

Are you always in people’s faces or too clingy in public? Have you experienced rejection in a relationship in the past? How did you deal with it? Do you have a tendency to be insecure when your partner interacts with the opposite sex?

You don’t have to answer these questions at a go. Some of them require that you take out time to reflect on.

You’ll also need to have conversations around this in your “talking stage”, let them come up naturally in your everyday talks and watch out for the reactions and responses.

Going on a Vacation and its Health Benefits

health benefits vacation

Have you been wondering what the effect of a vacation is?

Asides the dopamine (a hormone that makes you feel good) from lavishing your money on yourself, are there any other “real” benefits ?

Some people say its an investment in your health and I couldn’t agree more.

Research has proven that just the thought of going for a vacation (i.e the planning phase) can help boost happiness.

It keeps your mind away from things that can stress you out.

As little as the thought of “I have free time and I decide what to do with it”

It also helps you plan, prepare, think of problems that might arise and proffer solution.

Its that moment when your logical and emotional self comes together and just syncs.

It also helps your confidence when you have to make decisions under duress in the future even after your vacation.

Realizing that you made judgements fast and quickly, and you stood by the consequence even if it was made in a rush.

Here are 4 ways vacations have been proven to benefit your health.

  • Stress Reduction and Vacation

This can be a little tricky.

Although research says that removing people from stressful environments help to reduce stress level,

One has to ensure that you don’t spend too long away from your responsibilities such that your anxiety level begins to spike and you begin to panic.

Stress not only affects memory but also leads to other conditions.

When you are stressed you may experience many different feelings, including anxiety, fear, anger, sadness, or frustration. These feelings can sometimes feed on each other and produce physical symptoms, making you feel even worse. For some people, stressful life events can contribute to symptoms of depression

  • Sleep Health

A lot of people suffer from sleep disorders.

Vacations have been proven to help remove the routines that affect sleep patterns e.g family commitments, working late into the night, spending most of your day exposed to blue light from your computer screen.

Blue light messes with your body’s ability to prepare for sleep because it blocks Melatonin, a hormone that makes you sleepy.

Your level of exposure to blue light during a vacation is reduced largely aiding good sleep.

  • Fuels your Creativity

The “aha” moments happen when you’re in your most relaxed state.

Taking a vacation might be the best solution when you feel stuck and you’ve tried everything possible to get out of that phase.

You’re also more productive and creative when you take out time regularly to relax.

It also improves your motivation, perspective and performance in tasks and responsibilities.

Heart Health Benefits

“What we found is that people who vacation more frequently in the past 12 months have a lowered risk for metabolic syndrome and metabolic symptoms,” says Bryce Hruska, an assistant professor of public health at Syracuse University’s Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. “Metabolic syndrome is a collection of risk factors for cardiovascular disease. If you have more of them you are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease. This is important because we are actually seeing a reduction in the risk for cardiovascular disease the more vacationing a person does. Because metabolic symptoms are modifiable, it means they can change or be eliminated.”

Nobody is judging you if you decide ‘I’m taking a vacation

They are very important as they help clear the mind and also give you motivation to achieve certain goals.

You’ve decided ‘I’m going to the Bahamas to swim with the dolphins’

But you don’t really know what you’ll need.. especially if its your first time travelling out of the country.

Not to worry, Life Saddle got you.

In this article, we’ll be talking about how and what to pack for your vacation.

Vacation Tip 1: The very first thing to do is Research your destination

Image from Unsplash

Check the weather.

Do not assume what the weather should be. You can check out weather.com before you start to make other plans.

It’ll help you save the cost of spending a lot more money on clothes and other items.

Vacation Tip 2: Create a checklist

  • What activities do you plan to engage in ?
  • How long is your vacation for and what is your schedule for each day ? Places you plan to visit.
  • Your choice of clothing and accessories? List every item you are considering taking.
  • Toiletries. What do you need ?
  • Items that should be in your Backpack or Carry-on Luggage. ( They might be the only possession you have for a few hours. Plan wisely)

Vacation Tip 3: Choose your clothing and footwear choice wisely

Image from Unsplash

Choose outfits you can play around with, a flexible wardrobe works every time.

Pack convertible/multipurpose items such as dresses that can be worn in multiple ways.

Pack thin layers of clothing that can be easily layered up incase of a weather change.

Coordinate your outfits with colors and designs so you only pack items that work well with each other.

Your items should also be packed in layers to ensure easy screening at the airport.

Vacation Tip 4: Do not pack what you can buy/rent at your destination

Renting an equipment may be way cheaper than carrying yours and paying extra for shipping. Make enquiries and find out how much it costs.

Get travel size bottles for your toiletries and liquids or consider ditching them and getting from a store at your destination.

There’s a possibility that they might leak or explode and damage your clothing and other important things.

It also makes your luggage a lot lighter.

Vacation Tip 5: Essentials for your carry-on Luggage/ Backpack

As I mentioned earlier, they might be the only possession you have for a few hours.

Here a couple of things that should be in it – Your passport, identification, money, credit cards, jewelry, electronics, medication, water bottle, sunscreen, a change of cloth and other valuables you can’t afford to lose should incase your luggage gets missing.

Your carry-on luggage should be kept light nevertheless.

Vacation Tip 6: The Ideal is to pack Light

You also don’t want to be charged extra for your baggage fees.

  • Go over your checklist again and remove unnecessary items.
  • Wear your bulkiest shoes and clothes to lighten your luggage.
  • Roll your clothes tightly so you have more space in your luggage.
  • Get a plastic bag for your medications and beauty products, that way you save up the container space.

As a side note : Have a copy of your travel documents and prescription online incase it goes missing.

Looking forward to your feedback on how this helped your vacation plans.

Working the same job for a long period of time can limit a person’s thought process.

Creativity is also great for people with dementia. Through painting, sewing, or writing, a person with dementia can tap into their personalities.

Frequently practicing creative activities also helps sharpen their senses.

How to Keep Your Phone From Taking Over Your Life Fully

phone addiction

Phone addiction…

phone addiction

We’re distracted like never before — and our phones are probably the biggest culprit. But there is a way you can live with one and still get things done. When your mind is even slightly resisting a task, it will look for novel things to focus on. And it doesn’t need to look far — only as far as your phone.

Our smartphones provide an endless stream of bite-sized, delicious information for our brains to consume. It’s easy to get hooked, even to feel addicted. And most of us would prefer not to feel this way.

Here are a few strategies that are useful to prevent your phone from taking over our time and attention:

Use airplane mode, even when you’re not in the air

Airplane mode isn’t just for travel. Use it when you’re working on an important task or having coffee with someone you value. It makes a bigger difference than simply putting your phone in your pocket; when you do that, you’re still aware of the buzzing, vibrating notifications and distractions piling up and waiting for you. Airplane mode eliminates the possibility that notifications will disrupt your work or conversation.

Do a phone swap

While you should tuck your phone away while you’re with family or friends, there are times when you need to have it handy. On these occasions, try swapping phones with the people you’re hanging out with.

This way, if you have to look something up, make a call, or send yourself a reminder, you’ll have a device to do it with — but it won’t be one that will suck you into a personalized world of distraction. If there is an urgent call or message on your phone, of course, your swap-mate has to promise to tell you, and vice versa.

Prune your apps.

Scroll through your phone and delete the apps on which you waste too much time and attention — social media and news apps included.

This can feel refreshing, like spring cleaning for your phone.

Step two: Consider getting rid of apps that duplicate functionality with apps on your other devices.

For example, your email app may not be worth keeping if you also read mail on your tablet; an investment app you check compulsively might be worth nixing if you can access that information on your laptop.

Create a “Mindless” folder.

Its possible you can’t quite get rid of all your time-wasting apps — and that’s OK.

House your most distracting apps — the ones that pull you into autopilot mode — in a “Mindless” folder on your phone or tablet. The folder’s name should serve as a reminder every time you’re about to distract yourself.

Mind the gaps

This one takes willpower but consciously resist the urge to tap around on your phone when you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, walking to the coffee shop, or in the bathroom. Try to use these breaks to reflect and recharge.

Mindlessly burning these moments on your phone isn’t worth it.

Depending on your specific industry and offerings, this could open up a much wider customer base than relying on face-to-face interactions would.

Easier selling and marketing

How to create an online presence for your small business

Be present on all digital channels

It should go without saying that to develop an online presence you have to be present on digital channels. However, a large number of small businesses still rely entirely on traditional means of marketing. These businesses lack a website, social media profiles, a mobile app and so on. These digitally deprived companies cite a number of reasons for their slow adoption of a branded website or social media accounts. The most common one by far is that business is going well enough without it. If you are into this type of business, you are simply limiting the potential reach of your business.

Being solid starts with your website. It should be the central place where your audience can learn more about your brand and what you have to offer and how people can contact you for your services. However, this won’t have any impact if your webpage is hidden amidst a sea of content on the web. And this is where SEO comes in. You’re not an SEO expert? That’s okay. Ask for help from experts or others around you with enough expertise to keep you ahead. Excellent application of SEO techniques can literally take your website from zero to ranking on the front page of Google. Beyond hiring an expert, it’s also important to understand basic SEO practices so that you can channel your efforts towards creating sellable content.

Build Relationships

No matter which industry your business belongs to, there will be few online communities related to that industry. It will be worth finding out the communities where individuals or thought leaders from similar industry share their views. By participating in the relevant discussions and being an active member, you can start building relationships. Why is this so important? Well, chances are these people are better connected than you are and they might be able to help introduce you to others who are in your industry. New connections can be customers or partners who can help you grow your business.
